Ho Tay or West Lake is a large body of water on the outskirts of Hanoi is a popular as a place of recreation and also has a small, thriving commercial fishing industry. It is polluted with effluent and heavy metals from expanding residential areas surrounding the lake, light industry and vehicle emissions.
Unregulated medium-scale and artisanal mining causes groundwater pollution affecting crop production and human health.
