Endangered Primates
Of the 21 primate species that occur in Vietnam, 4 are classed as "Critically Endangered" and 4 as "Endangered". Vietnam is listed as having 4 of the World's 25 most endangered primates. One of these, the Golden-headed langur Trachypithecus poliocephalus poliocephalus, endemic to Cat Ba Island in Halong Bay, is down to less than 60 individuals and is staring extinction in the face. Delacour's langur Trachypithecus delacouri has around 300 individuals in several genetically isolated sub-populations, of which only the 70 or so individuals in Van Long Nature Reserve may have a realistic chance of long-term survival.
