Indochinese tiger Panthera tigris corbetti Hanoi Zoo, Vietnam. Hanoi Zoo breeds this endangered species despite not being part of an international breeding programme and having very limited space for tigers. The management of the zoo recently admitted selling tiger carcasses into the wildlife trade for use in traditional Asian medicine. There has been a sudden increase in the numbers of tigers kept in captivity in Vietnam and conservationists are concerned that they are being 'farmed' for medicinal products. |
